Dusk Provides Golden Sunset and Opportunity to Get Back to .500

Early games this week vs. an old rival (Aero FCU Skeleton Crew) were won with good defense and enough timely hits to count. Final scores of 4-1 (yes, 5 total runs scored) and 15-3 pushed OBI back to .500 after 3 weeks of play in Season 4.

Game 1 was a 7 inning affair that remained tied 1-1 till the bottom of the 6th inning. OBI pushed across 3 huge runs to forge an insurmountable lead, to win 4-1. KC laced a 2-run Double scoring Matt and Spillane to break the 1-1 tie.

The only thing better than scoring 4 runs in a win is,,, holding your opponent to 1 run ,,, in a victory. There were excellent plays and some really good ones. Jayse made a full tilt diving catch, a beaut... Larry dodged a few outs hit sharply back thru the box and everyone made the plays that were needed.

To start Game 2, OBI scored 4 in the top of the 1st inning. Holding onto a 6-3 lead, we put up a 9 spot in the top of the 5th inning. Juan ripped 4 hits in the game with Ricky and Larry collecting 3 each. These 10 hits were at the top of the order for this game which kick started the anemic offense.

KC collected 2 more RBIs with yet another double... Annnnd, the new guy, Jayse, in Week 3 of Season 4 crushed one (down the left field line past the LF) and was able to circle the bases for OBI's first HR of the season. Only took 6 games,,, must be the heat...

This week, games are at 815/915 on Field 2 vs. Just Show Up... In fact, I do not recognize three of the teams we play over the next four weeks,,, new blood??? Let's show 'em our best...

p.s. I plan to add a new row for Jayse for Week 4 ...

OBI Roster Adds Two Sluggers ,,, and OBI Suffers Double Header Sweep ...

Congrats go out to 2 proud new OBI parents, DC and JR !!!

On Wednesday, joining the OBI family is 8 lb. 15 oz Kawika Kainoa Craycraft. It's pronounced Ka-vee-ka and KC informs us it is David in Samoan. Basically, just another name that I will not be able to say the first 1,200 times it rolls off my tongue...

JR got the call in the top of the 1st inning of Game 1 last night. Needless to say, he promptly headed home and by 11pm he sent out notice that Aaliyah Jayde Reeves arrived at 7 lbs 5 ozs. And once again, please see my note above concerning my name issues.

Both Beautiful Babies,, and B E A Uuuuuu Tee Fullll Names ...

Well, onto the less important stuff,,, OBI was swept by Murphy's Law last night 8-17 and 18-21 ... A pretty good showing considering 5 regulars were missing... Ok, 4 1/2,,, since Michael played in jeans and tennis shoes, played catcher and swung left-handed...

Game 1 saw the top 4 hitters in the lineup score 1 run (in the top of the 7th) while stroking it at a 4-16 pace. And 2 of those were in the 7th inning... However, Larry and Juan jump started the bottom half of the lineup to produce the bulk of our runs.

Game 2 was a back in forth battle with Murphy's Law scoring more late in the game to come out on top 21-18. Top to bottom, the lineup was productive with both Spillane and Michael collection 4 hits and 4 RBIs. Matt actually recorded a 2-Sac Fly game which along with his triple netted him 4 RBIs as well.

No Home Runs of any kind were raked this week by OBI. I anticipate this changing along with the winds as we move towards Monsoon Season 2013... Here are the stats for Season 4 thus far:

The Softball Gods Giveth and the Softball Gods Taketh Away ...

With our double header split this past Thursday, it is readily apparent that One Bad Inning and We All Paid are both generous, to a fault. We All Paid lost game 1 by a score of 1-14,,, and then OBI lost game 2 in another run rule, 3-13.

Of the 31 total runs scored by both teams, an estimated 20 to 2 dozen of the runs were unearned. Both Larry and David pitched well, Spillane was running crazy out in left center, and it took Matt a game and a half to get a ball out in left field. Juan snapped a ball to Michael for a force out at second base (after forgetting his fork he usually used to catch the ball), unfortunately, Larry needs a haircut and the Light Blue couldn't see the ball beat the runner to the bag...

In Game One we saw a few sparkling offensive moments, including Juan's line drive to deep left for a triple. He then had to run first to home in his next at bat. I was tired just watching him. The following inning, Juan was at the tail end of a 6-3-2 as he tagged out a would be run at the plate to end the inning. We All Paid was very generous defensively, giving up about 10 unearned runs...

Game Two was OBI's turn at extreme generosity. Dropped, kicked, and generally poorly thrown balls were on full display as a low scoring close game early became a bottom of the sixth inning 13-3...

No stats this week cuz there were just too many We All Paid issues that made us look decent. My favorite was Matt's one-hopper to the pitcher turned Double as the pitcher was unable to accurately overcome the ~45 foot of bare, infield flat lands with a toss to the WAP 1st Baseman.
